Transformative Justice and Conflict Mediaition for Liberatory Movements
Umulkhayr is a trained Transformative Justice Facilitator/Conflict Mediator, specifically committed to increasing the level of support available for conflict mediation and transformative justice processes for activists and social movement groups and communities working towards collective liberation, so that the conflicts that are dividing our social movements can be engaged with in a generative way. We want the feedback, learning, and evolution in conflicts to support us to become collectively stronger and more powerful, so that we can work together for deep, radical change.
Navigate
Umulkhayr has received training in this practice by Navigate Coop who say the following about the work they do:
“We think we absolutely need to respond to conflict better if we are going to become a force that is powerful enough to transform the systems that are devastating life on earth - to stop dividing, fragmenting, and burning out from conflicts.
We are also committed to a worldview of understanding human beings as always trying to meet needs. We have experienced the beauty and power of transformative and restorative approaches to conflict and want to end the suffering caused by punitive conflict systems everywhere.”
Umulkhayr’s Approach
With training from Navigate Coop and guided by the insights of Paul Kahawatte, Umulkhayr’s practice is fundamentally grounded in the principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), inspired by the pioneering work of Marshall Rosenberg. Influences from Carl Rogers and transformative practices from communities around the world, including the Restorative Circles developed by Dominic Barter in Brazil, enrich their methodology. This approach not only prioritizes healing and understanding but also recognises the wisdom embedded in communities historically affected by colonisation and oppression. He will be open to working with new clients in late 2025.
